I am delighted to share good news of my next project with BRIT Press, the publishing department of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT). We are collaborating on an illustrated, four-book series of God’s Word for Gardeners devotions.
BRIT is a international scientific research and learning center in Fort Worth, Texas, conducting scholarly research to discover, understand, and conserve plants and all life. We will be using specimen images and botanical artwork from BRIT’s herbarium and library collections to illustrate and display graphically God’s gardening metaphor and wisdom. The series will showcase the institution’s vast holdings while offering a fresh, rich layering of Biblical insight in beautifully crafted books.
He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of the walls.
1 Kings 4:33 NIV
We have raised much of the funding necessary to make publishing possible, covering the cost of photography, book design, and editing for the first book of the series, My Father is the Gardener (working title). Thank you to our many donors!
Our remaining need is approximately $30,000 to provide for the cost of four-color domestic printing; we hope to locally source book production, keeping in line with today’s movement of farmer’s markets and “locally grown” flowers and produce. Thank you for considering a contribution; every gift is precious towards this goal. 40% of book sales proceeds will benefit BRIT.
Your tax-deductible gift to this project will help draw plant-lovers, garden-lovers, and the faith community together, increasing knowledge and wonder of the Lord in the landscape. We hope you will join us in bringing these books into being in the coming year!
